UEFA confirm Dani Carvajal will not face further punishment for Tuesday's incidents

UEFA have confirmed that Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal will not face further punishment for the incident which occurred between the right-back and Atletico Madrid striker, Mario Mandzukic.

Replays appeared to show Carvajal bite, then punch, the Croatian while the two were fighting for position during the second half of yesterday’s 0-0 draw.

However, referee Milorad Mazic made no mention of the incident in his official match report, and UEFA released a statement earlier today stating there will be no other disciplinary proceedings following Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg at the Vicente Calderon.

In a statement, UEFA did confirmed that it had opened proceedings against hosts Atletico Madrid over “blocked stairways” and a pitch invasion.

But European football’s governing body went on to say: “No other disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the above-mentioned match.”

Carvajal denied biting Mandzukic and reacted angrily when asked if he had committed the heinous action during his post-match interview.

“Seeing after the match that I have been accused of biting a rival player I want to make it clear that I did not bite anyone, nor did I try to.”

Mandzukic appeared to come the right-back’s defense when the striker posted comments to his official Twitter account earlier today.

“Yesterday’s game was very tough and both teams gave everything but for me there was no controversy, no bite, no nothing,” he wrote.

“We are already thinking about Saturday’s match against Deportivo which is very important.”

Real Madrid will already be without the services of left-back Marcelo for next Wednesday’s return leg at the Santiago Bernabeu after he was booked late in the game.

The loss of Carvajal would have left Madrid’s defense extremely shorthanded for next week’s decisive encounter with their bitter city rivals.
