Tottenham targets Nagelsmann if Conte departs, says report

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to hold talks with Julian Nagelsmann over a potential managerial role with the club. The 35-year-old coach has recently been fired from his role at Bayern Munich this week. Bayern will soon appoint Thomas Tuchel as new manager of the club.

According to The Telegraph, Nagelsmann is apparently a fan of the north London outfit. He even supposedly owns a replica Spurs jersey as well. Nevertheless, the Tottenham head coaching job is still currently held by Antonio Conte.

The Italian has been at the helm with Spurs since November of 2021. Although he holds a decent win rate of 54%, Conte has not yet delivered a trophy to the club. The team has not collected silverware since a League Cup triumph in 2008. Conte also found himself in hot water after ripping his players and the club after a 3-3 draw against Southampton last Saturday.

German coach hinted at joining an EPL team before

Nagelsmann has mentioned coaching in the Premier League before. Speaking at a 2020 press conference, the coach was asked to compare the English top flight to the Bundesliga. “When I watch Premier League games I recognize that it’s a tough and good league,” Nagelsmann began. ” I talk to (former Chelsea player) Timo Werner as well. He tells me that it’s hard to play against teams in the Premier League. A bit harder than playing against teams in the Bundesliga.

“So perhaps it’s one of the best leagues in the world, I think that’s clear. Perhaps even the best league in the world. But if I’m in the Premier League in the future, perhaps compare them more in detail.”

Opportune time for Tottenham to get their Nagelsmann

The aforementioned outlet also claims that Spurs wanted Nagelsmann to replace Jose Mourinho two years ago. However, the German coach opted to join Bayern instead. It remains to be seen if Nagelsmann would take the Spurs job now, but the north London club would need to finally address the Conte situation first.

It is thought that Conte will be relieved of his duties before his current contract expires in the summer. This could be the best time to get their first choice coach. Nagelsmann will certainly have suitors the longer he is available as a free agent.
