The Football Association has contacted Swansea City manager Garry Monk to seek his observations in relation to post-match comments he made following his side’s 2-1 loss to Stoke City on Sunday.
Following the match, Monk branded referee Michael Oliver’s decision to award Stoke City a penalty “a disgrace” after it appeared Victor Moses had dived, before turning his attention to the head of Premier League referees Mike Riley.
“The penalty against, for me, is a disgrace. It’s a disgraceful decision. Not in a million years a penalty,” Monk said during his post-match interview.
“The problem now is that a lot of times in a season there are match-changing decisions going against us. I don’t see anything being done about it.”
“I’ve spoken to the referee about it, I’ve spoken to the association about it, and I don’t hear anything from Mike Riley coming back to me at all, which I find poor leadership.”
“The whole thing is beginning to mount up now and is becoming a very worrying situation.”
The Premier League has since confirmed that Professional Game Match Officials Limited, headed by Riley, had “received contact from Monk on Monday morning” and that “Mike [Riley] will no doubt be speaking with Garry this week”.
The FA has yet to decide whether to take disciplinary action against Monk, who will have until October 27th to reply.
The FA have written to Monk asking for his observations in what could be a precursor to a charge. Once Monk has given his side of events, a decision will be made on whether or not he will be charged.
