After the match between Barcelona and Betis last Saturday, there was a confrontation between Raphinha and the assistant referee of Gil Manzano. The Brazilian was very angry about the latest decisions of the referee and did not hesitate to reproach him during and at the end of the match. Specifically, the anger occurred due to a badly signaled throw-in by the assistant and the little time that the referee discounted.
As could be captured by the images of DAZN, the first clash occurred during the match. Raphinha reproached the assistant for signaling an offside in favor of Betis: “It’s over there, it’s over there, damn it. What are you saying? Shut up”– The play continues and Raphinha’s anger with the linesman, too: “You don’t tell me to shut up, I’m not going to shut up. The last time you tell me to shut up. What do you think you’re doing? The ****** of your f*** mother“.
The assistant replied on a couple of occasions saying: “You don’t yell at me”, while the “Azulgrana” (Blue and Garnet) continued with his protests although he moved away from Gil Manzano’s assistant.
At the conclusion of the match, and already in the center of the field, when the assistant approached the position in which Raphinha and Gil Manzano were, the Brazilian said to him on a couple of occasions: “You are rude, you are rude. You don’t tell me to shut up,” said Raphinha while Gil Manzano asked him to calm down.
Seeing that things were getting tense, other teammates such as Lewandowski and Koundé separated Raphinha to prevent things from getting worse. The Brazilian went to the locker room tunnel still directing words to the refereeing trio. It was then that Ter Stegen wanted to take him away so that he would not continue with his complaints and he pushed him away.
Previously, Hansi Flick had already tried to stop the player, but the striker was very angry and did not listen to reason. In other audios it has been possible to hear that there was some insult, but these were not reflected in the minutes nor is there a clear image of them.
