Ruben Amorim’s full apology to Manchester United fans after a ‘disastrous’ season

Rúben Amorim took the microphone at Old Trafford and issued a heartfelt apology to fans after Manchester United’s worst Premier League finish in 50 years. Despite a 2–0 win over Aston Villa—United’s first league victory in nine matches—the club finished 15th, missing out on European competition for the upcoming season after also losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.

Standing at the center of the pitch, Amorim addressed supporters in an emotional moment, asking for unity after a turbulent season marked by on-field struggles and fan protests against the club’s co-owners, the Glazer family.

“First of all, I want to apologize for this season,” he said. “I know you’re very disappointed with me and the team.”

He went on to thank the supporters, acknowledging their loyalty during a challenging campaign: “We’re very grateful for your support throughout what I know was a really bad season.”

Amorim encouraged the club to look forward, not back, saying the players, staff, and fans must make a choice to stay united and rebuild: “We can either stay stuck in the past or fight each other, or we can move forward together.”

Referencing his early days in charge, he reflected on a warning he gave after his first three matches at the helm: “Six months ago, I said the storm was coming. Now, after this disastrous season, I’m telling you: the good days are coming.”

He also addressed his players directly, admitting he had at times been overly critical: “Sometimes I wasn’t fair, but I always tried to be honest.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United confirmed the departures of three veteran players: Victor Lindelöf, Christian Eriksen, and Jonny Evans, all of whom will leave the club after their contracts expire this summer.

The team now enters a critical offseason with major changes expected across the squad and coaching staff, as fans and leadership look to recover from one of the most disappointing campaigns in the club’s modern history.
