Raphael Varane Commits Future To Real Madrid

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has been linked with a host of Europe’s top clubs over the past season and a half. The France international has found playing time hard to come by under manager Carlo Ancelotti since suffering lingering knee injuries throughout the 2013-14 campaign.

This season, the 21-year-old Frenchman has made six La Liga starts for Los Blancos while his main competitor in central defense, Pepe, has been named to the starting eleven fourteen times.

But following Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Getafe on Sunday, Varane insisted he is fully fit and 100 percent committed to the remaining at the club for the long term – despite his named being linked with Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.

“Pepe and Sergio Ramos have played more than me, but when it is my time I try to do my best for the team,” Varane said following the Getafe match.

“I have had one year without my knee hurting and I am capable of playing every three days without discomfort.”

When questioned further about his future in Madrid, the defender responded: “I am 100 percent with this team. I am happy here and I have a contract until 2020.”

Following the winter break, Real Madrid have struggled to regain the momentum they had maintained towards the end of 2014.

The Spanish giants lost their first match after the New Year to Valencia – ending a 22-match winning streak in all competitions – and were later knocked out of the Copa del Rey over two legs by Atletico Madrid.

But despite the recent stumbles, Real Madrid have already collected two titles this season: the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Raphael Varane believes he and his teammates have moved past their Copa del Rey defeat and are now fully focused on winning the club’s two remaining competitions.

“Our important objectives are the league and the Champions League. We have time to prepare for games, which is good.”

Real Madrid’s next match will be on Saturday away to Cordoba.
