Rangers sacks Michael Beale after just seven games in 2023/24

Scottish Premiership side Rangers relieved manager Michael Beale of his duties. Currently, the Scottish giants sit third in the domestic table with 12 points after seven games. Rangers has four wins and three losses under Beale, who only took over at the Ibrox Stadium in November 2022. Therefore, Beale did not last one year with the club despite a strong showing for much of the 2022/23 campaign.

Last season, Rangers lost just four games in the 38-game season. Beale’s Rangers side was on pace to match that far earlier. During this past weekend’s loss to Aberdeen, Rangers supporters flooded the Ibrox with jeers against Beale. The English manager failed to win a trophy at Rangers. It fell just short last season in the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup, where Rangers finished second in both.

Beale was an assistant under Steven Gerrard when Rangers won the Scottish Premiership in the 2020/21 campaign. He then took over as manager at Queen’s Park Rangers in the Championship. However, he accepted the role to return to Scotland in the midst of the 2022/23 season when Rangers sacked Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Now, he meets the same fate as his predecessor with Rangers already seven points adrift of Celtic. Rangers announced Steven Davis will serve as the interim manager while the club hunts a permanent replacement. Davis is currently under contract with Rangers as a player, but he only made 16 appearances last season.

Michael Beale loses control at Rangers

Beale won 19 of his 23 league games in his first year with Rangers a season ago. The two losses were both on the road. The first was against Celtic in a five-goal thriller, and the other loss came at Aberdeen. However, Celtic also bested Rangers in both the Scottish Cup semifinal and the Scottish League Cup Final. The trophy-hungry supporters at Rangers did not see a second-place finish in the league without a trophy as a successful campaign.

Rangers looks to get back to winning ways under Davis with a road game in the Europa League against Aris Limassol from Cyprus.
