Patrice Evra Likely Heading to Juventus After Requesting Manchester United Departure

Despite signing a recent contract extension, Patrice Evra has requested to be able to leave Manchester United and is likely heading to Juventus in a deal for £2 million. Evra has been with United for the past eight seasons and is stating personal reasons for the move. Evra has only gone as far as to ask United for a move, but has not handed in an official transfer request, as of now. Along with the initial £2 million, Evra is said to be receiving £55,000 a week for a two-year deal.

He joined United from Monaco for £5.5 million in January of 2006 and since arriving at Old Trafford the French left-back has made 273 appearances scoring seven goals. While with United he helped earn five Premier League titles, a Champions League title and three League Cups. He made a reputation for himself as a strong attacking threat down the left  flank and on set pieces. He captained the Red Devils for much of the 2011-12 season.

Evra first received a call-up to the French National senior team in 2004 but failed to make the final 23-man squad for Euro 2004, however he was included in the roster for qualification to the 2006 World Cup but withdrew due to an injury. He did travel with Les Blues to South Africa for the 2010 World Cup and captained the team during their first two matches. Evra was also the leader of the player’s protest against manager, Raymond Domenech, and was stripped of the captain’s armband and forced to sit during France’s elimination from the World Cup after a 2-1 loss against host nation South Africa. Recently Evra traveled with France to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup. He played well at left-back helping to stimulate the French attack. France was knocked out by Germany in the quarterfinals.
