Official: Liverpool Signs Belgium Striker Divock Origi But Immediately Loans Player to Lille

Liverpool Football Club has announced the signing of 19-year old Belgium striker Divock Origi.

Liverpool paid £10m to acquire the services of the young forward on a five year deal from French club Lille, but he will remain at the French club for a further season on loan.

Origi has netted six times in his 40 appearances at Lille, and impressed many during the World Cup, where he displaced a misfiring Romelu Lukaku as starting striker and netted the crucial goal in Belgium’s 1-0 win over Russia.

He is a strong forward with good attacking instinct who shall look forward to more first team opportunities and a chance to develop further at Lille.

He flew out to the United States to meet Liverpool and finish up the deal. Upon arriving at the club, he said: “I am very, very happy and delighted a club as big as Liverpool showed interest in me. I’m very excited.

“I know it’s a club with a great history, great fans and a lot of great players. For me, Liverpool is one of the greatest clubs in the world and I’m very excited to be part of this great history.”

Firmly labeled as one for the future, it will be interesting to watch his development in France and see when he is afforded first team opportunities at Liverpool.
