Official: Liverpool Confirms Dejan Lovren Signing from Southampton

Southampton center back Dejan Lovren has completed his medical and is officially a Liverpool player.

Lovren, 25, spent just a solitary season at St Mary’s, scoring twice in 31 appearances. He becomes the third Southampton player to join Liverpool in this window, joining English pair Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana.

The fee is believed to be in the region of £20million, meaning Liverpool have paid Southampton close to £50million for the trio. The Saints have now lost four first team players in this transfer window, with right back Calum Chambers being constantly linked to Arsenal, and Morgan Schneiderlin being targeted by both Spurs and Arsenal.

Lovren joined Southampton in the 2013 summer window after a mixed time at Lyon, but then Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino brought the best out of the Croatian in an impressive season for the Saints and Lovren.

He then went on to feature in all of Croatia’s three fixtures in the 2014 World Cup, giving away a controversial penalty to Fred of Brazil in the opening game.

Liverpool will be looking to sure up their defense, after conceding 50 goals in the Premier League last season, 13 more than league winners Manchester City.

Also at Anfield, it is being reported that QPR striker Loic Remy has failed his medical at Liverpool ahead of his potential move to the club. The club declined to comment on the situation, but Remy has a known heart defect since his signing for Marseille in 2009.
