NYCFC appoint Patrick Vieira as coach to replace Jason Kreis

New York City FC has appointed Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira as the club’s new head coach to replace Jason Kreis who was sacked last week.

Vieira, who was previously the head coach of Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad, has signed a three-year contract with the club and will begin his role on January 1 in advance of the 2016 MLS pre-season.

The Frenchman will travel to New York tomorrow to meet his playing squad and to spend time with Sporting Director Claudio Reyna and Goalkeeping coach Rob Vartughian.

Vieira captained the French National team and was part of their World Cup winning side in 1998. Alongside a World Cup winners’ medal, his playing honors include a UEFA European Championship with France and at Club level, three English Premier League titles, five FA Cup titles and three Serie A titles.
