After selling Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint-Germain for £54million, Napoli are negotiating to sign Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain as well as Internacional striker Leandro Damiao, according to Napoli’s club president Aurelio De Laurentiis who was quoted in La Repubblica Sport.
New Napoli manager Rafa Benitez has been given a reported transfer budget of £108m to spend in this transfer window. With Higuain rumored to be close to signing for Arsenal, Real Madrid looks to have a bidding war on their hands as several clubs are interested in signing the Argentine striker.
Here’s what De Laurentiis said:
“It’s true that we’re negotiating for Gonzalo Higuain and Leandro Damiao.
“The money we got for Cavani was 64.5mil euros and added to the 60mil euros we had set aside for the transfer budget there will be 124.5mil euros to carefully invest on Napoli.
“There are various names on the table, we’re assessing the situation.”
Meanwhile, Napoli are on the verge of signing Real Madrid centre back Raul Albiol who is currently undergoing a medical at Napoli.
