Mark Clattenburg To Referee The UEFA Super Cup

Mark Clattenburg has been appointed match referee for the UEFA Super Cup between Real Madrid and Sevilla on August 12 at Cardiff City Stadium in Wales.

The 39-year-old official will be accompanied in Cardiff by an all-English team of match officials: Simon Beck and Stuart Burt will work alongside him as assistant referees; with Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor acting as additional assistant referees.

The UEFA Super Cup is the annual match between the Champions League and Europa League winners; with this year’s match being an all-Spanish encounter.

Born in Consett, County Durham in England, Clattenburg has been an international referee since 2006 and has presided over 46 UEFA fixtures during his career. He has been handed many high-profile events across Europe, but he is likely known best for his work in the Barclay’s Premier League.

Clattenburg officiated five Champions Leagues games last season, as well as the Europa League semi-final second leg between Juventus and Benfica.

He also refereed a Football League Cup final at Wembley in 2012, the 2012 Olympic men’s final and the FA Community Shield match between Manchester United and Wigan in 2013.
