Bristol City

League One Promotion Race

I’ll declare my bias right off the start — I hope Nottingham Forest get an automatic promotion to the Championship this season. That being said, there is a massive game this weekend as third-place Forest face second-place Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

Promotion could be worth up to £10m this season and Forest were once seven points clear at the top. A loss against Bristol City would leave them seven points off the automatic promotion places. A win for Forest would leave them in could shape for the stretch. Forest have an easier stretch run than their promotion rivals with only one of their last six fixtures coming against a side from the top half of the table, while current table-toppers Scunthorpe United and second-place Bristol City face sides pushing hard for a play-off spot.

Forest will be without striker Junior Agogo for the rest of the season with a groin injury. Agogo, a Ghanian international, was the club’s second leading scorer with 10 goals in 34 games since joining the Reds from Bristol Rovers in August 2006.

Table-toppers Scunthorpe will look to return to winning ways as they face 20th place Bradford City. The Iron have drawn their last three league fixtures.
