Newcastle (United Kingdom) (AFP) – Dutch international goalkeeper Tim Krul joined Dutch giants Ajax on loan until the end of the season on Thursday from Newcastle, after signing a one-year contract extension with the Championship side.
The 28-year-old — who became the first goalkeeper to be sent on for a World Cup finals penalty shootout at the 2014 edition and saved two of the Costa Rican penalties as the Dutch won 4-3 — has agreed to remain a Magpies player until the summer of 2018.
However, he will spend the remainder of the 2016/17 campaign with Ajax, as he continues his recovery from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered last October.
Krul, who has made 185 appearances since joining Newcastle from ADO Den Haag in 2005, became the Magpies first choice goalkeeper in the 2011/12 season.
