Jesse Marsch in talks with Leicester, says report

Leicester City are reportedly discussing their open managerial job with Jesse Marsch. The Athletic claims that the East Midlands club have talked with the American coach about possibly joining the team. Leicester fired previous manager Brendan Rodgers on Sunday.

Rodgers departed after the club fell to 19th in the Premier League table. The Northern Irish coach previously finished eighth, fifth, and fifth, in his three full seasons at the helm. Rodgers also guided Leicester to an FA Cup triumph in 2021 as well.

Caretaker managers Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell are holding the reigns at Leicester for the time being. However, the club suffered yet another defeat midweek to further cement their place near the bottom the standings. A potential decision on a new boss is expected after they face Bournemouth on Saturday.

Foxes are filled with talent but threatening relegation

Despite Leicester’s position in the table, they are seemingly an attractive team to take over. After all, the Foxes have plenty of talent in the team. This is lead by star midfielder James Maddison. Widely regarded as one of the top creative Premier League midfielders, Maddison has racked up nine goals and six assists in top flight play this season.

Along with Maddison, the club also has capable attackers such as Harvey Barnes, Patson Daka and Jamie Vardy. Leicester’s problems are certainly not scoring. The club has managed 40 Premier League goals so far, most of any team inside the bottom half of the table.

Leicester officials think Marsch would be good fit

Marsch’s offensive coaching style apparently attracts the Leicester brass. Although the American was previously sacked by Leeds, there was no doubting the excitement he brought to the club. Marsch utilizes a Gegenpress system that helps create scoring opportunities through pressing. According to the aforementioned news outlet, Leicester think this style would suit the players in the squad.

The Foxes are, however, not solely looking at Marsch as a potential Rodgers successor. Leicester are also considering Rafa Benitez and even Sam Allardyce for the open position as well.
