High Court Rules Against Tom Hicks And George Gillett

Club Chairman Martin Broughton described himself as "elated" at the news.

The last few weeks have been nothing short of chaos on Merseyside. But today fans of Liverpool finally got the good news that the proposed takeover of the club by New England Sports Ventures has been given the green light.

There won’t even be an appeal by Tom Hicks and George Gillett and it does seem that the unpopular duo will be emptying their Anfield offices in the very near future, and could even be gone by the end of the week.

The news is such a bonus for Liverpool who have slipped away from the Premier League big-guns after Hicks and Gillett lumbered the club with a financial burden which meant they could not compete financially anymore.

This financial burden has now gone and Liverpool can concentrate on moving forward without the threat of a financial collapse or even administration. While NESV won’t come with massive funds for Roy Hodgson to spend, you have to feel that a more secure base can only be good for the likeable boss.

I think the important thing for Liverpool fans to remember is that this won’t be a process that will see them compete with the likes of Manchester City for the big name signings overnight, hopefully in the future it will allow them to close the gap.

We don’t really know a lot about the plans of NESV but given their track-record of proven success they will surely make the club a happier and more importantly a secure place.

UPDATE

The Liverpool board will now consider the offers on the table and decide on the best way to take the club forward. This could mean that the NESV takeover does not go through and the Singapore bid fronted by Peter Lim could still go through.

Which bid would be best for the club?
