Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has claimed that Vincent Kompany will one day succeed him at the helm. Kompany previously played under Guardiola at City for the last three seasons during his 11 years at the club. The former center back now manages EFL Championship side Burnley.

Guardiola spoke about his former captain on Friday during a press conference. The topic of conversation switched to Kompany because he will bring Burnley to Manchester in an FA Cup matchup on March 18.

Kompany has destiny at City says, Pep Guardiola

“Sooner or later he will be manager here,” Guardiola said of Kompany. “It is going to happen. I don’t know when, but it is going to happen. It’s my feeling. His destiny to be Man City boss is written in the stars.”

The reigning Premier League champion coach also heaped praise on Kompany’s Burnley as well. “The consistency they are showing is unbelievable,” continued Guardiola. “I am impressed. The Championship is difficult for the amount of games.”

“They are close to promotion again to the Premier League and I am delighted for him personally for his success at Burnley. I think all of us, as fans, will be happy for him to be back.”

Former City defender thriving at league-leading Burnley

Burnley currently lead the Championship by 12 points over second-placed Sheffield United. The Clarets suffered relegation from the Premier League last season by finishing 18th, three points from safety. Nevertheless, Kompany has quickly helped turn things around at the club.

Previous Burnley teams held a reputation for boring play and the long-ball approach. However, Kompany has brought pieces of Guardiola’s tactics with him to the Lancashire club.

Under Kompany, Burnley rank first in goals scored, second in possession, and second in short key passes among all Championship sides. The Clarets have lost just two of 34 league matches so far during the current campaign.
