Germany, Holland, Belgium submit bid to cohost 2027 World Cup

Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany have officially confirmed their bid to cohost the 2027 Women’s World Cup. The three nations have been coordinating the potential bid since 2020. They even created a joint Twitter account last year in an effort to spread the word on the proposal. The trio will use the slogan “Breaking New Ground” based on the first letters of each word also representing the first letter of each country.

Trio determined to put on best tournament possible

“Women’s football is currently developing well worldwide. We want to pick up on this momentum with our joint application and set another exclamation mark,” German soccer general secretary Heike Ullrich stated. “That is a responsibility that we are happy to face up to with conviction.”

“We are sure to offer perfect conditions for the tournament. Our aim is to present the players with the best sporting conditions, the fans with a unique atmosphere and all associations with sustainable approaches.”

Ullrich’s Dutch counterpart, Gijs de Jong, also commented on the announcement as well. “The popularity of women’s football boomed in the Netherlands after the 2017 European Championship. Since then, it has been impossible to imagine Dutch football without the OranjeLeeuwinnen (Dutch women’s national team),” proclaimed de Jong.

“Our ambition is to create the best sporting conditions for the players and a unique atmosphere for our ‘Orange fans.’ In doing this, we focus on the ever-increasing importance of organizing major events as sustainably and responsibly as possible.”

United States could battle against 2027 World Cup European cohost

The three European nations are the first applicants to officially declare intentions to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup. However, the United States has also previously expressed interest in hosting the tournament.

U.S. Soccer has mulled the idea to launch a bid to host either the 2027 or 2031 Women’s World Cup. The United States has already hosted back-to-back competitions in 1999 and 2003. The upcoming 2026 Men’s World Cup tournament is also set to be co-hosted by the United States as well.
