FOX Sports has released its first video to promote the 2015 Women’s World Cup, and it’s typical FOX.
Twenty four teams from around the world will compete in the tournament hosted in Canada this summer, but after watching FOX’s video to promote the tournament, you would think there’s only one team participating.
I have nothing against patriotism and wanting to cheer on your country, but after watching this video (as an American citizen), it’s incredibly condescending to the 23 other teams playing in the tournament.
The punchline in the video is:
“See that third blue star over the crest?
“No?
“Well, just wait.”
….As if it’s a foregone conclusion.
Yes, the United States will be one of the favorites to win the tournament, but FOX Sports has come out of the gate as biased, myopic and disrespectful.
If I was one of the coaches of the teams that the USA will face this summer, I would play the video on a loop to motivate the players to prove the United States wrong.
Hopefully the USA will win its third World Cup this summer, but I’ll be tuning in to watch the other teams too.
