Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo are La Liga’s best attacking trio

Real Madrid’s attacking trio of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo (BBC) are La Liga’s best scoring unit to date.

“BBC” have scored 49 league goals this season, with all three players scoring more than ten goals. Ronaldo leads the way with a staggering 28 goals and nine assists, followed by Benzema (11 and 8) and Bale (10 and 5).

Before the season began, there was great anticipation among La Liga fans that the arrival of Luis Suarez would provide Barcelona with an attacking trident that would rival Madrid’s BBC. But the Uruguayan’s late start (due to his FIFA imposed ban) meant that the Catalan club had to navigate the early months of the campaign with Lionel Messi and Neymar carrying the scoring load up front.

After a sputtering 2013-14 season together, Messi and Neymar began the new campaign in total sync. The Argentine forward and his Brazilian strike partner combined for 15 goals and eight assists through Barcelona first eight La Liga matches.

But once Suarez entered the equation on October 25th in El Clasico, it appeared the Uruguayan’s introduction briefly altered the fluidity and production of Barcelona’s attack.

It took some weeks for the trio to gel, but following the winter break (and a 1-0 loss at Real Sociedad) the Barcelona trident has started to fire on all cylinders.

Since the loss to La Real on January 4, Barcelona have played four league matches with Messi, Neymar and Suarez combining for 14 goals and five assists.

It appears the race to see who will have the best attacking trio in Spain is now truly on – and there’s a La Liga title up for grabs too.

Real Madrid are leading the league by one point over Barcelona, but have a game in hand (which they will play today against Sevilla). Their strike force also has the benefit of playing together for more matches over a greater period of time.

Benzema and Ronaldo have been playing together since 2009, with Bale entering the fray last season.

On the other hand, Messi and Neymar only began their partnership last season, with Suarez being introduced to the attack this past October.

The best (or fairest) evaluation of these three-headed strike forces should be after next season. But for now, it makes for great banter between fans of both clubs.
