Everton vs Manchester City; team news and predicted lineups

Manchester City will hope to continue their 100% start to the season when they play Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

The Citizens have won both their games so far including the big game last weekend where they underlined their title credentials by beating Chelsea 3-0.

The victory moved City five points above Chelsea, which gives them the early momentum in the title race.

Manuel Pellegrini has continued to strengthen his side with Nicolas Otamendi signing from Valencia for a reported £32m fee on Thursday. Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne is also reported to be close to signing for the Etihad based club.

Everton on the other hand are clinging to John Stones as Chelsea prepare a reported £40m pound bid for the young English defender.

Manager Roberto Martinez has insisted Stones is not for sale at any price and has assured the club’s supporters that the 21-year-old had not handed a transfer request contrary to media reports.

The Toffees have begun the season on a good note after they followed up a 2-2 draw at home to Watford with an emphatic 3-0 win at Southampton.

Romelu Lukaku scored two goals in the last match and he will be looking to trouble the City defenders, who have been in decent form this season.

The most recent meeting between the sides on Merseyside ended in a 1-1 draw in January.

Team News

Pablo Zabaleta is the only definite absentee for City with the right-back ruled out for up to a month. Fabian Delph is also doubtful, but Gael Clichy could return after overcoming an ankle knock last weekend.

Vincent Kompany and Eliaquim Mangala should keep their place at the heart of the defense after Pellegrini confirmed that Otamendi wouldn’t be making his debut this weekend.

Everton are unable to call on Leighton Baines, Tony Hibbet, Darron Gibson and Steven Piennar due to various injuries.

Lukaku should lead the line for the hosts with Ross Barkley, Tom Cleverly and Kevin Mirallas behind him, while Stones and Phil Jagielka will be the center-back pairing.
