Ecuador commentator cries tears of joy after nation beats Argentina

If you want to get a flavor for what it meant to Ecuador last night after their team beat Argentina away for the first time ever in their World Cup qualifying history, take a few minutes and savor the audio from Ecuadorian radio soccer announcer Patricio Javier Diaz.

The passionate and memorable call evokes what Diaz and many other Ecuadorians must have been feeling. After Frickson Erazo scored the first goal, it sounds like Diaz was on the verge of breaking down and crying.

Diaz, who certainly has the gift of the gab, went into overdrive after Felipe Caicedo scored Ecuador’s second and final goal of the game. Diaz’s call for the second goal reminded me of “We love you forever and ever” after the USA helped Mexico keep their World Cup dreams alive.
