Carlos Tevez on the verge of Atletico Madrid move

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is on the verge of quite a transfer coup.

Over the past few weeks, the Argentine has been using his influence to recruit fellow countryman Luciano Vietto from Villarreal. And it now appears Simeone has convinced Carlos Tevez to leave Juventus and join his footballing renaissance in the Spanish capital next season.

While the transfers of Vietto and Tevez  have yet to be made official, the noise coming from Madrid is that the arrival of both players could be announced in the coming days.

“[Vietto] is one of our objectives,” Simeone said. “His signing is imminent and I expect to have his services for next season.

“He’s a fine player not dissimilar to David Villas and can play behind a front man and ahead of the midfield. He’s very tactically aware. I knew him well as a lad at Racing [Club], and have him his first team debut. He’ll be a great acquisition.”

As for Tevez, Simeone admitted that he had yet to hold personal talks with the Argentine striker. However, club officials have been dealing with the player’s agent and Tevez is keen on taking up his countryman’s cause in Spain next season.

“It’s always exciting to be linked with players like Tevez,” Simeone added. “He has the game in his blood. He’d be an ideal signing for our style of play.”

Tevez was rumored to be willing to see out the final year of his contract with Juventus next season, with the Argentine expected to return to his homeland in order to reunite with his family and to finish his career with Boca Juniors.

However, the former Manchester City striker appears to be preparing for a move to the Spanish capital next season.

According to the real estate company Proto Organization, Tevez has put down a €1.5 million deposit on a €3.7 million dollar house in Madrid.

With deals for Vietto and Tevez nearing completion, it can be expected that Atletico will look to move striker Mario Mandzukic in the coming days and weeks.

The Croatia international has been linked with moves to various Serie A sides, as well as a handful of Premier League clubs in recent days.
