Thursday Night’s nationally televised match between Chivas USA and DC United ended controversially with Chivas’ Paco Mendoza being called for a phantom offside when he was in on goal. The game ended level 2-2, and both teams recovered from that affair with resounding victories against quality opponents on Sunday. DC United moved four points clear of the closest opposition for the Supporters Shield with a 4-2 win over New England at RFK Stadium. Chivas defeated Red Bull NY 3-0 at the Home Depot Center thanks to two more goals from Maykel Galindo. Chivas is two points behind Houston for the Western Conference lead with two games in hand. They face local rival LA Galaxy long eliminated from the playoff race on Thursday Night.
