Crystal Palace Meltdown Continues After Iain Moody Resigns Over Alleged Racist Texts

Crystal Palace has announced that Sporting Director Iain Moody has resigned from the club.

The incredibly laconic statement suggests that the evidence of racist, homophobic and sexist texts sent between Moody and ex-Cardiff manager Malky Mackay is the reason for the resignation.

This comes just days after Tony Pulis announced his departure from the club, following an internal struggle with the ownership over transfer funds. Pulis was picked by many as manager of the season after his miraculous recovery with Palace last season, leading them to safety from relegation.

Mackay, for a time, was tipped to become Palace boss after Pulis left the club, but the allegations being made and Moody’s resignation have quelled any such rumor.

When talking of South Korean international Kim Bo-Kyung, the two have been reported to have sent texts such as “Fkin chinkys. Fk it. There’s enough dogs in Cardiff for us all to go around”.

On agent Phil Smith, texts allegedly read “He’s a snake, a gay snake. Not to be trusted” and on a female football agent a damning allegedly text read “I bet you’d love a bounce on her falsies”.

These are just a handful of the texts that were allegedly sent that have resulted in Moody’s immediate resignation. For the individuals, it may make it much harder to find work at the top level for the foreseeable future. For Palace, it is more controversy and more instability at a time when neither was needed. The club needs to steady the ship with some swift and shrewd managerial recruitment to boost their hopes of Premier League survival.
