Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo defends adorable Japanese kid attempting Portuguese [VIDEO]

Real Madrid forward and three-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo is a polarizing figure.

The 30-year-old is loved by a section of soccer fans for his world class talent and showmanship, but he’s also loathed by many who consider him vane and egotistical.

However, during an interview at a promotional event in Japan, Ronaldo showed his compassionate side while being questioned by a young Japanese boy who was attempting to speak to the global icon in his native language of Portuguese.

While the boy was obviously nervous, Ronaldo was understanding what was being said and engaging the young interviewer.

As the boy continues to read from his prepared statement in Portuguese, the crowd gathered at the event begins to laugh at him.

Ronaldo, who is seen nodding and answering “I understand” to the boy, turns to the gathering and chastises them for making the boy more nervous.

The Real Madrid star turns to his translator and says (in English): “Why they smile? He speaks good Portuguese! Very good! They should be happy because he tries very hard!”

The mood in the room immediately changed once Ronaldo came to the child’s defense. The crowd went silent before erupting in applause for the boy and the effort he was undertaking to speak to his idol.

Whether you are a fan of Ronaldo or not, the video is compelling and could change your opinion on the polarizing player.
