Christian Pulisic has been part of a rebuilding phase at AC Milan following a disappointing 2024–25 campaign that fell short of expectations. Now preparing for the 2025–26 season, the Rossoneri are aiming to return to the top of Serie A, and reports suggest they’ve made a $95 million Liverpool striker their top summer priority.
Milan have already seen several key departures during the current transfer window, including Tijjani Reijnders, Theo Hernandez, and Pierre Kalulu. Meanwhile, the club made a statement signing by bringing in veteran midfielder Luka Modric. With Massimiliano Allegri back at the helm, Milan are reportedly eyeing another major move.
According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Milan have identified Darwin Nuñez as their primary target for the summer. The Uruguayan striker has reportedly decided to leave Liverpool, and Milan are prepared to push for his signing.
Nuñez joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022 for a club-record €85 million (approximately $95 million). Despite high expectations, the 26-year-old never fully settled at Anfield and has become a rotational piece under new manager Arne Slot, fueling his desire for a fresh start.
Negotiations with Liverpool, however, won’t be simple. The Premier League side are said to be seeking around €60 million for Nuñez, with Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal also expressing serious interest. According to Di Marzio, Milan have already held direct talks with the striker, but no official bid has been submitted yet, leaving the door open for Milan to move in.
Milan’s striker search intensifies
While Milan boast strong options on the wings with Pulisic and Rafael Leão, they’ve struggled to find consistency at the No. 9 position. The departure of Olivier Giroud in 2024 has only deepened that void. Previous experiments with Alvaro Morata, Tammy Abraham, and Joao Felix failed to deliver the desired results, leaving Mexican international Santiago Gimenez as the club’s only current center forward.
Given the need for a reliable striker, Milan are determined to reinforce the position. Di Marzio reports that Arnaud Kalimuendo, Dusan Vlahovic, and Rasmus Hojlund are also on the club’s radar, but Nuñez remains the top priority for both Milan’s front office and Allegri.
