Chelsea meet with Nagelsmann for manager vacancy

Chelsea are the latest club to seek out Julian Nagelsmann for its vacant manager role. While Frank Lampard has the interim reigns at the club, Todd Boehly and the Chelsea hierarchy see Nagelsmann as the man to right the ship from what has been a simply dismal season at Stamford Bridge.

Bayern Munich sacked Julian Nagelsmann in early April after a string of ‘poor’ form for the German giants. At the time, Bayern was still alive in the DFB-Pokal and the UEFA Champions League and led the Bundesliga. Since his sacking, Bayern crashed out of the cup and looks set for an exit from the UEFA Champions League. It has a two-point edge in the Bundesliga.

According to Sky Sports, a pair of Chelsea executives flew to Germany to talk about the managerial role at Stamford Bridge. Chris Vivell and Laurence Stewart, who both worked with Nagelsmann at RB Leizpig, talked with the coach at the end of last week. Chelsea is considering Nagelsmann as a candidate against the liked of Luis Enrique, Mauricio Pochettino and Sporting boss Ruben Amorim.

Previously, Nagelsmann stated his desire to one day coach in the Premier League. Tottenham Hotspur is also in the running to land the German as its manager. Then, other clubs from across Europe are eyeing Nagelsmann.

Nagelsmann will not arrive as Chelsea manager this season

If Chelsea can successfully get Nagelsmann as manager, it will not be until the 2023/24 campaign. The current season, a dreadful one for Chelsea, is currently under its third manager. Frank Lampard is in charge of the club on a strictly interim basis. That runs through the end of this season.

Sky Sports reported Chelsea has no intention of cutting that caretake sting short. Even though Chelsea has three losses in three games under Lampard, the Englishman will retain that spot for the time being.

However, based on form and results, Chelsea will certainly be in the market for a permanent manager.
