Glasgow Celtic have asked permission to speak with Roy Keane about the vacant manager’s position at the Scottish Premier League club.
Keane wasn’t at the Republic of Ireland press conference today, but Martin O’Neill was. O’Neill confirmed that he received a call from Celtic majority shareholder Dermot Desmond asking to speak to Keane. O’Neill said he passed on the enquiry to Keane.
Neil Lennon recently announced his departure from Celtic, but that he agreed to assist with finding a replacement.
While Keane was an accomplished footballer, his record as a football manager has been poor with disappointing stays at Sunderland and Ipswich Town before his current position of assistant manager of Ireland. However, many Celtic supporters respect Keane due to his stint at Celtic from 2005-06 as a player.
O’Neill has confirmed that talks have taken place between Keane and Celtic Football Club. Celtic meanwhile have said that they have not offered the position to Keane. Yet.
