Caicedo focused on Brighton as trio swarm to sign the star

Brighton & Hove midfielder Moises Caicedo has declared that he is focused on his current club despite being linked with a move away from the south coast. The 21-year-old central midfielder made the comments during an interview on Tuesday with the team’s official website.

“I have been focused on doing things very well and to be up there fighting for a good position,” said Caicedo. Brighton is currently in the mix for a spot in Europe in sixth place with a game or two in hand on many of its rivals.

“I am focused on Brighton. I am here, I’m playing every day. Things from outside don’t trouble me, nor does it take that focus away because I’m focused only on here. I handle [the speculation] well. You hear rumors here and there, but I only try to be focused on the club.”

Brighton have already rejected a $67 million bid for Moisés Caicedo

Caicedo joined the Seagulls in 2021 from Ecuadorian side Independiente for around $5 million. The Premier League club has recently rejected a $67 million offer from Chelsea during the January transfer window. Brighton are in no rush to sell their star and will hold out for the right price.

Team head coach Roberto De Zerbi recently raved about Caicedo and declared his wishes for the midfielder to remain with the club. “Caicedo is very important for us. I hope he finishes the season with us,” De Zerbi said.

“It’s always difficult to be certain, but when big teams want our players it’s good news for us. The best solution is that he finishes the season with us. If he continues to play like this in the last games, it’s possible that in the summer he can leave for another team.”

Three PL clubs vying for midfielder

Along with Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are also reportedly interested in Caicedo. The Premier League leaders have already signed Leandro Trossard from Brighton, but could use reinforcements in central midfield. Despite having a clearly talented team, the Gunners could use a bit more depth.

While Caicedo has confirmed that he is focused on his current club, the midfielder has recently changed agents. The move has fueled speculation that he is looking for a move away from Brighton. Nevertheless, the Ecuador international will cost a pretty penny if he departs the south coast this month.
