Bordeaux's Poko fined over shisha selfie...in a Marseille shirt

Bordeaux (AFP) – An ill-judged selfie of Andre Poko smoking a shisha and wearing a Marseille shirt has cost the Bordeaux midfielder the wrath of his club.

The Gabon international was summoned on Tuesday for a dressing down by Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud and club director Alain Deveseleer.

The 23-year-old was “reminded of his duties following his unjustifiable behaviour,” the Ligue 1 club reported in a statement.

It continued: “Even if Poko said he hadn’t realised the effect of what he’d done and reiterated his apologies over his improper behaviour the club decided to impose a severe financial punishment to encourage him to reflect more and to conduct himself in an irreproachable way in the future.”

Bordeaux declined to say how much they had fined the player over the photo which was taken on the final day of the last Ligue 1 season.

The snap of Poko wearing a Marseille shirt belonging to his friend and compatriot Mario Lemina shocked his club and provoked anger amongst Bordeaux fans who called for his sacking.

A group of supporters interrupted a training session on July 1 to tackle the player over the selfie slight.

Shisha is the flavoured tobacco smoked with a hookah water pipe.
