For years, the Saudi Pro League has been attracting top-tier talent from European soccer, transforming the league into one of the most competitive in the world. Al Hilal, one of the country’s powerhouse clubs, has long been rumored to be targeting Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski.
The Saudi side were reportedly looking to sign one of the best strikers of this century and the third-highest active goal scorer, aiming to bring in a new superstar following Neymar’s departure to Santos in February. However, Robert seems to have other plans.
“Lewandowski has no intention of leaving Barcelona,” said Polish journalist Tomasz Wlodarczyk, a respected source on matters related to the 36-year-old striker, according to Sport. “He is happy, ready for the new season, and eager to complete his contract.”
This appears to close the door on any potential transfer this summer, effectively securing his future with Barcelona ahead of the 2025–26 season, despite nearly a month remaining before the transfer window shuts in most of the world’s top leagues.
How long is Lewandowski under contract at Barcelona?
In the summer of 2022, Barcelona agreed to a transfer deal with Bayern Munich for Robert Lewandowski worth €45 million, with an additional €5 million in add-ons—totaling approximately $58 million. The agreement secured the striker for four seasons in Spain, with an annual salary of €33.3 million and a release clause of €500 million.
Since then, Lewandowski has lived up to the hefty investment. He has been a key figure for Barcelona over the past three seasons, scoring 101 goals and adding 19 assists in 147 appearances, helping the Catalan side win five trophies.
Al Hilal secured another striker
Robert Lewandowski’s rejection didn’t deter Al Hilal, who this week finalized the signing of another center forward to bolster their squad for the 2025–26 campaign, where they will compete in the Saudi Pro League, Asian Champions League, and the Saudi King’s Cup.
Darwin Nuñez left Liverpool to join Al Hilal in a deal valued at €53 million (over $60 million). The Uruguayan forward signed a three-year contract and was officially unveiled by his new club on Saturday.
