Alex Morgan to be featured on FIFA 16 cover with Messi

For the first time in the game’s history, a woman will be featured on the cover of FIFA ’16.

EA Sports announced today that Alex Morgan will be on the cover alongside Lionel Messi for the game’s United States release this September.

Earlier in the year, Messi was announced as the global cover star meaning that Messi would be on all covers of the game worldwide with separate athletes on covers in different regions. The inclusion of Morgan on the cover in the US coincides with the game’s release of 12 women’s teams, the first time women’s soccer will be featured in the video game.

Morgan is easily one of the most recognizable faces of the women’s game today and received high praises from her cover-partner. “Alex and her team have accomplished something amazing for their country and the sport in the USA, and to share the cover with her is an honor,” said Messi.

“I know people all over the world play this game and I’m really excited that ‘FIFA 16’ is putting such an important spotlight on women’s soccer,” said Morgan. “And now to share the cover with today’s greatest player is surreal.”

The Canadian cover of FIFA 16 will also feature Canadian National Team captain Christine Sinclair alongside Messi.

FIFA 16 is set to be released on September 22, 2015 in North America.
