Barnsley Knock Chelsea Out of FA Cup

The final whistle has just blown and Barnsley has achieved one of the biggest shocks in recent FA Cup memory by defeating Chelsea 1-0 at Oakwell.

In the previous round, Barnsley beat Liverpool. The Yorkshire club are now heading to Wembley to compete in the FA Cup semi-final. What an amazing achievement for the side who sit sixth from bottom in the Championship.

After today’s earlier shock when Portsmouth beat Manchester United 1-0, the final four in the FA Cup now comprises Portsmouth, Barnsley and the winners of Middlesbrough/Cardiff and Bristol Rovers/West Bromwich Albion.

What a wonderful year for the FA Cup. With all of the big four clubs being knocked out of the tournament, it’ll be a fascinating 2008 final and a wonderful opportunity to see different sides walking out at Wembley.
