Argentina fan hijacks bus to rush home to watch World Cup semi

Sports fans go to great lengths to watch their favorite teams on television. Some supporters may call out of work or miss family functions. However, one man in Argentina fan hijacks a bus to race home to watch a World Cup match.

And the bus was also full of passengers at the time!

According to Argentine news channel TN, the incident occurred in the heart of Buenos Aires. The man in question was frustrated that the bus journey was taking too long. He was in a hurry and wanted to get home in time to catch Argentina face Croatia in the World Cup semifinals.

Argentina fan hijacks bus and takes matters into his own hands

Only just beginning his journey, the actual bus driver informed passengers that he was going to stop to buy something at a local kiosk. Taking matters into his own hands, one of the passengers took over the route while the driver stepped out.

The man drove the bus for about two-and-a-half miles before the bus was stopped. A locking system inside the bus eventually forced the excursion to end. Unfortunately, the story has a sad ending. He never made it home for the game.

He was later charged with automotive theft in the Argentine capital.

Argentina won the match 3-0

Argentina went on to demolish Croatia 3-0 in the game in Qatar. Superstar Lionel Messi stole the show on the night after scoring a goal and recording an assist.

Following the victory, Messi was asked if the World Cup Final would be his final game in the competition. “Yes. Surely yes,” replied Messi. “There’s a lot of years until the next one and I don’t think I have it in me and finishing like this is best.”

Argentina will now face France in the World Cup Final on Sunday. The reigning champions of the competition advanced in the tournament by beating Morocco on Wednesday. It does not appear likely that the bus hijacker will be able to catch Messi’s last World Cup match at the weekend.
