This Tuesday, Bayern Munich will play the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals against Real Madrid, a crucial matchup for their ambitions this season. However, they could find themselves without their main star, Harry Kane.
The striker suffered an ankle injury during training with the England national team over the FIFA March international break, and his availability for upcoming club matches is in serious doubt.
“That will affect tomorrow’s match, and he won’t be available,” Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany said during Friday’s press conference ahead of the Bundesliga match against SC Freiburg.
“Nevertheless, I’m optimistic about Tuesday’s match,” Kompany added in reference to the Champions League clash against Real Madrid, though he admitted: “Of course it’s not an ideal situation—I would have liked him to play against Freiburg—but given the current situation, that won’t be possible.”

Vincent Kompany, Head Coach of Bayern Munich, looks on.
The impact of Harry Kane on Bayern Munich
Since arriving in Germany from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023, Harry Kane has established himself as Bayern Munich’s undisputed leader on the field. His numbers make that clear, and this season has been no exception.

Across the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, DFL-Supercup and UEFA Champions League, the English striker has made 40 appearances during the 2025-26 campaign. He has scored an impressive 48 goals, along with five assists, averaging 1.32 goal contributions per match.
How have Bayern Munich dealt with Harry Kane’s absence before?
This season, Harry Kane has missed just two matches for Bayern Munich. Both came in March due to a calf issue. Coach Vincent Kompany replaced him on both occasions with Nicolas Jackson, who scored in each match against Borussia Monchengladbach and Atalanta.
