U.S. Men's National Team Climbs to No. 19 in FIFA Rankings

The U.S. Men’s National Team moved up three spots to No. 19 in the FIFA world rankings, which were released on Thursday.

It is the first time the U.S. has made an appearance in the Top 20 since March 2011. They also moved ahead of rival Mexico, ranked No. 20, to become the highest ranked team in CONCACAF, also for the first time since 2011.

The move culminates a successful summer for the squad and coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

The U.S. went a perfect 3-0-0 in June in World Cup qualifying to move to the top of their qualifying group, and then won the Gold Cup tournament in July to run their unbeaten streak to 11 games.

The next FIFA rankings will be released on Sept. 12 – just two days after the U.S. faces Mexico in a World Cup qualifying match at a sold-out Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
