Sascha Riether Banned for 3 Matches After Accepting Charge of Violent Conduct For Stamping On Adnan Januzaj

Fulham defender Sascha Riether has been banned for three matches by The FA after accepting the charge of violent conduct for his foul on Manchester United’s left winger Adnan Januzaj.

The German defender fouled Januzaj in last Saturday’s match at Craven Cottage. The incident, when Januzaj was backed into a corner where Riether stamped on his leg, wasn’t seen by any of the match officials. Under a new rule that the FA has in place, they were able to charge Riether with the incident.

Previously, where the match officials had confirmed to The FA that none of them had seen an incident the match referee was then asked to review all available video evidence before being asked what action, if any, he would have taken had it been seen.

Under the new process, if an incident has not been seen by the match officials, a three-man panel of former elite referees Steve Dunn, Eddie Wolstenholme and Alan Wiley will be asked by The FA to review it and advise what, if any action, they believe the match referee should have taken had it been witnessed at the time.

The FA said today that, “Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today, Fulham’s Sascha Riether has been suspended for three matches with immediate effect after he accepted an FA charge for violent conduct.”

Fulham’s next match is away at Anfield.
