Ryan Reynolds plans to cash in on Wrexham success

Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds is reportedly trademarking the club’s name, as well as a catchphrase. Such has been the rapid rise of the club’s notoriety, the actor has filed paperwork to trademark ‘Wrexham FC’ and ‘Wrexham FC 1864.’ These will be officially registered inside both the United States and United Kingdom.

Along with the team names, Reynolds has also apparently copyrighted ‘Wrexham is The Name’ Stateside as well. The Canadian-American businessman currently has a trademark pending on ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ in the U.S. The moves will essentially help turn the club into a brand.

Ryan Reynolds has already teased new Wrexham merchandise

Wrexham and Reynolds can now create branded goods following the trademarking of the names. This will most likely include sportswear, mobile games, and toys. Reynolds also donned a fresh new hat design during a recent match. The actor himself has confirmed that the hat will be added to the club’s website for purchase soon.

The pending copyright in America is also the name of the hit show surrounding the team. Welcome to Wrexham debuted on FX in August of 2022. The series was an instant success in America as soccer supporters and non-sports fans both flocked to the show. The drama encompassing the Welsh side’s highs and lows in the National League gripped viewers.

Welsh club nearing promotion

Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney purchased Wrexham in November of 2020. The duo are attempting to take the team up into League Two this year. Wrexham are currently leading the National League by four points over Notts County. The two teams recently put on a classic in an encounter to determine which side would take the upper hand in the league. Wrexham beat their rivals 3-2 on the day.

The Welsh club also previously had a game in hand compared to Notts County as well. However, Wrexham drew Barnet 0-0 on Saturday. The Red Dragons picked up the point despite having one of their players sent off in the second half of the match.
