Premier League On Par For Closest Ever Title Race

For the neutral fan, Arsenal’s 2-1 win against Manchester United was just the tonic we needed for a more competitive season among the Big Four. The three points ensures that Arsenal is still in the title race, at least for the time being. Now questions are being asked of Man United, who have lost two crucial games — this most recent one, and the loss earlier in the season to Liverpool.

While United stumbled at the Emirates, the juggernauts known as Chelsea and Liverpool continued their winning ways. At this rate, the 2008/2009 season could be the closest top four finish since the 1996/1997 season when only 7 points separated first from fourth position in the Premier League. Man United won the league with 75 points, while Newcastle, Arsenal and Liverpool ended in second through fourth positions — all of them on 68 points and separated only by goal difference.

Eight points currently separates fourth placed Manchester United from first place Chelsea. However, United has a game in hand.

What were your opinions about Saturday’s Arsenal against Man United match? Will Alex Ferguson be able to patch up the United back four who are letting in too many goals? And can Arsenal use this win as a massive confidence boost to mount a serious title challenge? Click the comments link below to share your feedback.
