Moscow calls detention of Russian fans in France 'unacceptable'

Moscow (AFP) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday slammed the detention of Russian football fans in France as “absolutely unacceptable” while French authorities remain wary of more clashes at Euro 2016.

“It was an absolutely unacceptable incident when a bus with more than 40 Russian fans was stopped by police,” Lavrov said, referring to the group of 43 Russian supporters taken into custody Tuesday over clashes around Russia’s match against England on Saturday. “They (police) demanded that they get off the bus for document and identification checks.”
