Major League Soccer’s first game to air nationally on FOX broadcast television was viewed by 595,000 people. The match featured New York City against New York Red Bulls, which was shown live from 3:30-5:30pm.

FOX’s live coverage of New York City versus New York Red Bulls was a first in a number of ways. It was the first-ever MLS game to air nationally on FOX broadcast television. As part of its 8-year agreement with MLS, FOX will air an additional 3 matches on its over-the-air network this season. Plus the broadcast was the first time the FOX network has featured a soccer doubleheader that includes live coverage of the FA Cup Final from England.

In addition to the four matches on the FOX network, FOX Sports 1 is broadcasting 30 MLS regular season matches this year.

Meanwhile, the New York City-New York Red Bulls was viewed by an average of 41,000 people on FOX Deportes.

In comparison, the total combined number of 636,000 for FOX plus FOX Deportes didn’t surpass the 732,000 people who watched LA Galaxy against Seattle Sounders on ESPN and ESPN Deportes in August, 2015.
