Queens Park Rangers striker Lioc Remy’s proposed move to Liverpool has been called off after the player failed a medical with the Anfield club, according to British media.
The France international was to make a £8.5 million move from the newly-promoted Premier League side to Liverpool. But after today’s news, it is understood that Brendan Rodgers will look for alternative scoring options.
Speculation is that Remy’s calf injury, which led the striker to miss a number of games while on loan at Newcastle United, has resurfaced or has not properly healed.
Medical examinations are usually a formality in the transfer process. But there are occasions when a player can be determined to be unfit, suffering from a previously unknown medical issue or carrying an injury.
Liverpool have refused to comment on the specifics as to why the deal fell through.
Remy played a total of 28 minutes while making two appearances for France during this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
