Lamine Yamal’s FC Barcelona return to revamped Camp Nou reportedly revealed

Lamine Yamal and FC Barcelona head into the 2025-26 season not just aiming to replicate last year’s success, but to surpass it after securing a historic domestic treble. Adding to the excitement, reports suggest the club’s long-awaited return to a revamped Camp Nou has now been revealed.

The Catalan giants moved to the Montjuic Olympic Stadium in August 2023 to begin a major renovation of the Camp Nou, an ambitious project reportedly exceeding one billion euros. Now, as the final stages of construction near completion, a specific date for the team’s homecoming appears to be set.

According to Marca, Barcelona are expected to return to the Camp Nou on September 14, when they face Valencia on La Liga Matchday 4. The club has submitted a request to the city council to approve an occupancy license for the initial phase, allowing 30,000 fans to attend the match. For that game, only the main stand and one of the ends will be opened to the public.

Following that fixture, the club is planning to gradually increase capacity, targeting 45,000 spectators for subsequent La Liga and Champions League games. The ultimate goal is to scale up to 60,000 before fully opening the stadium to its expanded 105,000-seat capacity.

Barcelona initially hoped to inaugurate the new-look Camp Nou with a limited-attendance Joan Gamper Trophy match against Italian side Como on Sunday, August 10, but that proposal was quickly dismissed. Still, after nearly two years away, Barça fans are just weeks away from returning to one of the world’s largest, and now most modern soccer venues.

Yamal’s return to Camp Nou after debut

Barcelona’s stadium overhaul began shortly before Lamine Yamal’s meteoric rise to the first team. The teenage phenom has played just once at the Camp Nou for the senior squad: his debut on April 29, 2023, during a 4–0 victory over Real Betis.

Back then, Yamal was only 16 years old and featured for just seven minutes, soaking in the atmosphere in front of a packed home crowd. Now a regular starter for both Barcelona and Spain, fans are eager to watch the young star shine in the same stadium where they once witnessed the rise of Lionel Messi—now hoping Yamal can carve out his own legendary path.
