After being docked of 15 points in the ongoing Serie A season due to financial irregularities, Juventus are now at risk of being banned from any European Competitions.
Football Italia have referenced newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claiming that the Old Lady could be banned due to ‘unsporting conduct’.
Moreover, Juventus could also face a new trial after being accused of paying salaries under the table after the Covid pandemic. If the accusations are proved true, that the club secretly paid salaries and left no trace in their financial documents, UEFA will review and take into account the new figures in their balance sheet.
Fair play fines could increase
The report also claims that Juventus, who were fined €3.5m in 2021 for failing to comply with Financial Fair Play parameters could now see that number rise to €23m if found guilty of not sticking to the rules within the next three years.
This would mean that the Bianconeri would be banned from European Competitions for more than a season depending on the figures.
European Qualification In doubt
However, the potential ban will only kick in if Juventus qualify for an European place. At the time the Old Lady were second in the Serie A standings but now with the 15-point ban, they sit 10th with 22 points from 18 games and 12 points adrift for a Champions League berth.
However, they could qualify for the Europa League next season as they are 6 points behind Udinese in 7th.
On Friday, the Italian FA announced that the Bianconeri had manipulated transfer finances and sanctioned the club along with 11 executives that included board directors and board members who were also banned for a lengthy span.
The club has been accused of false accounting and market manipulation in recent financial statements and were under scrutiny by prosecutors and Italian market regulator CONSOB.
Juventus have formally submitted an appeal against the penalty and much remains to be seen what is in store for the Turin based side.
