Growing up, Blockbuster Video was an essential place. You could go there to rent movies and video games. The critical mistake Blockbuster made was that they could’ve bought Netflix for $50 million but they turned that down. Years later, Blockbuster went out of business, but in their place, Gamefly has filled the void by renting video games.

The way that Gamefly works is pretty simple. Gamefly offers three plans. A 30-day trial allows you to rent one game or movie at a time. After the 30 days, it’s $15.95 per month. Another option is to rent one game or movie at a time for $9.50 for three months or 32 cents a day for 90 days. Afterwards, it’s $15.95 per month. The last plan is Gamefly’s best value. You receive two games or movies at a time for $13.50 per month for three months or 45 cents per day for 90 days. The price goes up to $22.95 after that.

When you pick the plan that best suits your needs, you’ll put in your credit card information and mailing address. Depending on where you live determines which warehouse your items will come from. Gamefly has a warehouse in Los Angeles, which is also the location of their headquarters, and in New York. Afterwards, you’ll be asked to add 10 items into your queue. The items are categorized by high availability, medium availability and low availability. The number one game on my list was PES 2020. I wanted to try it because I purchased FIFA 20 when it was released last year, and it was a major disappointment. PES 2020 was said to have high availability and it was the only one on my list with that categorization so I assumed that was the game I would be receiving. Instead, I received One-Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows first. This game was number five on my list.

One-Punch Man is a Japanese amine series based on Saitama who is a bald-headed 26-year-old guy that’s so good at defeating super villains and monsters which a single punch that he often gets bored of doing it. The game was released on February 28 and is an arena fighting game where you go through a story mode using a character you created who wants to be a hero. Throughout the storyline, you’ll encounter Saitama and unfortunately, you can only use him sparingly.

As a person who only plays sports games, One-Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows was decent but it’s not something I would’ve ever picked out if I didn’t have to be forced to put 10 games in my queue. Depending on how you look at it, that could be a blessing in disguise.

PES 2020 has arrived, and I’m making my way through the game to see how it compares to the institution of FIFA 20.

As far as soccer video game rentals go, Gamefly has:

• Xbox One: PES 2017, PES 2019, PES 2020, FIFA 14, FIFA 15, FIFA 16, FIFA 17, FIFA 18, FIFA 19, FIFA 20

• PS4: PES 2018, PES 2019, PES 2020, FIFA 14, FIFA 15, FIFA 16, FIFA 19, FIFA 20

• Nintendo Switch: FIFA 19, FIFA 20 and Soccer, Tactics and Glory.

Overall, if you like sampling games and movies without the commitment of buying them, Gamefly is for you. There are no late fees and you can cancel at any time. Also, if you really enjoy a game or movie and want to keep it, there’s a purchase option available to retain the item.
