FA Cup 5th Round Draw offers prospect of Wrexham vs Spurs

Drumroll, please. The FA Cup 5th Round Draw has been made, and it has conjured up some very intriguing games including the prospect of either Wrexham or Sheffield United facing Tottenham Hotspur.

Six of the games in the FA Cup 4th Round ended in draws, so replays are required to determine the final teams advancing to the fifth round. Those replays will be played the week of January 31 or February 7 with coverage on ESPN+.

Tottenham could get the lowest team remaining, should that team advance from its replay. Wrexham, the story of the FA Cup this year with Hollywood owners, played a thrilling draw against Sheffield United. The fifth-tier side is looking to be the 11th team from outside the Football League to reach the fifth round.

So far, there are just nine teams left that come from the Premier League. That includes Fulham, which is going to a replay at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland. More notably, however, is that the nine teams in the fifth round do not include the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle, Chelsea or Liverpool. Although the latter two are struggling this season, they were the finalists a season ago with Liverpool

The most intriguing of the games for neutrals is likely the Manchester United clash against West Ham. This is, with the uncertainty surrounding Fulham, the only certain clash of two sides currently in the Premier League. Six of the other seven games have one Premier League team against a team from lower in the Football League.

For example, Manchester City and Brighton are both up against Championship sides. Tottenham and Southampton could have the ‘easiest’ paths, at least based on position in the pyramid. The Saints await their opponent, the winner between second-tier Luton and League Two outfit Grimsby Town. That replay is at Grimsby Town.
