Emiliano Martinez could leave Aston Villa for Juventus, reportedly opening door for Zion Suzuki after failed PSG move

Emiliano Martinez‘s future at Aston Villa has been one of the central storylines of the summer transfer window. Now, with Juventus reportedly making a strong push for his signature, the Villans are set to secure Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki as his replacement after the keeper’s proposed move to Paris Saint-Germain collapsed.

As reported by The Athletic‘s David Ornstein, Juventus have submitted a formal bid for “Dibu” Martinez worth 7 million euros up front plus 3 million euros in team performance incentives ($7.7M + $3.3M USD). The total package approaches the guaranteed 10 million euro fee ($11M USD) Aston Villa have been seeking to let the Argentine international depart.

Juventus initially registered interest in the 33-year-old shot-stopper before the 2026 World Cup, but negotiations stalled in early August when the Italian side deemed Villa’s 10 million euro asking price too steep. However, talks have reignited two weeks later, with personal terms between Martinez and the Serie A club not expected to pose any obstacle.

With Martinez edging toward the exit, Aston Villa shifted their primary focus to completing a deal for Zion Suzuki. The Japanese goalkeeper was in advanced negotiations with PSG before talks with Parma broke down, clearing the path for Aston Villa to swoop in.

According to The Athletic, Aston Villa and Parma reached a full agreement on Sunday for Suzuki’s transfer. The 23-year-old goalkeeper, who delivered a standout performance at the 2026 World Cup, is set to join the Premier League club for an initial fee of 30 million euros plus 5 million in add-ons ($33M + $5.5M USD), signing a five-year deal through 2031.

Why did Suzuki’s deal with PSG collapse?

At just 23 years old, Suzuki emerged as a key reason Parma avoided relegation from Serie A before carrying that form to the 2026 World Cup with Japan. His international displays caught the eye of top European clubs, with PSG aggressively pursuing his signature to the point of nearly finalizing a transfer.

Following their UEFA Super Cup victory, PSG were actively working to close multiple summer deals, including Ferran Torres, Mika Godts, and Suzuki. However, on Saturday, a chartered plane sent to Parma returned empty after the French champions abruptly decided to pull out of the deal.

According to L’Equipe, Suzuki’s agency presented last-minute demands, including a 5 million euro commission fee, a contractual guarantee that he would become the team’s starting goalkeeper by 2027, and an option for an exclusive loan move to a Champions League club. While PSG agreed to certain terms, they balked at submitting to the agents’ escalating pressure, causing the entire transaction to implode despite a prior club-to-club agreement with Parma.
