Just minutes after delivering the commentator’s curse, Bolton’s Stelios Giannakopoulos scored the only goal of the match which dealt a cruel, cruel blow to Derby County.
The Rams, without a doubt, deserved a point in this match and were unlucky not to win it especially after hitting the crossbar twice in quick succession. This was a Derby County side that played football, passing the ball on the ground to player’s feet and making intelligent runs. Craig Fagan almost scored early in the match during a one-on-one with Jaaskelainen.
If Derby can continue playing like this and fix their lack of concentration in the final few minutes of matches, the Rams have a fighting chance of narrowing the gulf between them and Fulham and Sunderland.
